Tāwhaki-nui-a-Hema Scholarship
Award
- For study at post graduate level – Masters or PhD.
- Applicants study should interlink with Mātauranga Māori and be of relevance to the people of Ngāti Rārua Ātiawa.
- There is an expectation that the recipient will contribute to Ngāti Rārua Ātiawa Iwi Trust during the term of their scholarship.
- The number and value of scholarships awarded will be at the discretion of the Education komiti.
Eligibility
- Be a registered member of Ngāti Rārua Ātiawa Iwi Trust.
- Be enrolled at a recognised tertiary institute or training provider.
- Be a resident of New Zealand and have a current New Zealand bank account.
- Have a strong academic record or life experiences and contribution to the community.
- The successful applicant must sign and return a funding agreement.
- Award paid out annually, 50% upon provision of official academic record indicating successful completion of semester 1, and the balance on provision of official academic record indicating successful completion of semester 2.
Other Requirements
- Applicants must demonstrate how their study fits within the Trust’s social and cultural objectives. Refer to Te Pae Mahutonga for more details.
- Applicants must provide details of any leadership and representative roles held during the last five years.
- Applicants will be interviewed by a panel from the Education komiti.
- Applicants must have the capacity to carry out project-based mahi with Ngāti Rārua Ātiawa Iwi Trust.
- Applicants must supply their proposed thesis title (if applicable).
- Requirement of presentation to Ngāti Rārua Ātiawa Iwi Trust’s AGM during course of study.
- Expectation of participation in Ngāti Rārua Ātiawa Iwi Trust alumni or other wānanga during and after study.
- Successful applicant must sign and return a funding agreement before the scholarship is released.
- Have not previously been awarded this scholarship.
